Project:

Fabric Architecture | Digital Assets

Brief

Digital assets were required by Fabric Architecture to increase their own original stock content across video and photos. Essential for use across their website and social media, our aim was to capture as many as their services at work across two sites in Manchester as possible.

Fabric Architecture have core services that were on display across both sites so our team of a Director, DOP, Photographer and use of a drone made up our crew and services on display.

It wasn’t the first time we were producing digital assets for Fabric Architecture as we have covered two separate sites previously in South Wales and North Yorkshire. This project had identified a specific need of short videos within services like – trench digging, concrete pouring and surveying with footage of their team, equipment and machinery and a montage suitable for their homepage.

Our
solution

We always try to employ a lean crew whether it’s a full blown campaign, or in this case capturing digital assets. Especially when on sites like this where safety is paramount. We never want to disturb the normal work flow in workplaces, but definitely here, where things like concrete pouring are very time focussed tasks.

It meant that we could all work closely together, guided by the Project Manager to facilitate key moments or actions. Safety was a priority so we had briefings across both sites and the correct PPE to be able to be on the grounds. In specific areas only.

Production wise, we limited lens changes ensuring we had everything on our belongings. We posted up tripods in safe areas and maximised zoom lens’ capabilities as often we were at a slightly longer distance than we creatively preferred. Our Director and Project Manager observed from a mobile monitor to offer changes, recommendations and approve the shots we were seeking.

Once we got into the flow and our client could see the quality of footage we were getting, we were able to build momentum and work around the construction sites normal work flow effortlessly.

We just didn’t anticipate the 30 degree heat!

Outcome

As we’ve built up a working relationship with Fabric Architecture our understanding needs little interjection. For digital assets like these, we knew exactly what they wanted as we regularly recommend those approaches.

We knew the footage from the day was excellent, so putting it into sub 30 seconds videos was not going to be too testing.

The colour grade was important for us, as the sun was so bright on the day we did have to be wary of exposure. Fortunately the colours on both sites were bright in terms of uniform, machinery and equipment so we were able to push these to pop further. In the end the colour on all videos looks beautiful.

The music always needs to be neutral, not stealing the show, but adding to the visuals. They deliver this, shown by the limited feedback received before approval. We do appreciate most of these videos won’t play sound on the website, but having the options means they can be used for additional marketing.

The digital assets delivered were extremely well received, which we are very proud of.
