This post is possibly a little different to our previous ones, but we feel we should give our website an authentic and real account of how our first Awards night went as YouNeek Productions.
So for those who don’t know, the Leamington Business Awards was set up to showcase the best Businesses and people in our local town – Leamington Spa. A small group of great people set up a non profit awards with a fantastic judging panel including the MP of Warwick – Chris White. The awards hosted at the Royal Pump Rooms had 10 awards to give out to some magnificent candidates – http://leamingtonbusinessawards.co.uk/award-categories/
YouNeek Productions were lucky enough to be in the ‘Rising Star’ category as a new Business and under 25 years old when the Business was set up. We were nominated and made the shortlist of 3 to be a finalist. This was a great recognition for us, and despite obviously wanting to win it we were extremely proud to be involved and alongside some other great Businesses and people. Unfortunately we didn’t win on this occasion, but it’s only motivation for the next one.
The evening itself was splendid though. Men looking sharp in suits and tuxedos and the woman doing as what was said on the ticket – ‘dress to impress‘. An event that sparkled as soon as you were greeted by the hosts. A quick snap for the glamour effect from David the Awards Photographer and away we set for the complimentary drinks. Prosecco it was. My personal favourite. Big ticks so far. The whole event was due to be kept account of via a live Twitter feed as well using the hashtag #LeamBizAwards which was managed by Todd who did an excellent job through the night.
Myself and Dale stood around sipping our drinks both silently thinking…we’re enjoying this. We could get used to events like this, and being in the company of other local Businesses who are all trying to do the same things we are. The canapés that were floating about needed clarifying for myself, but the one that did grab my gamecih download attention was a little onion number on a very small brown piece of bread/toast. I’m sure there’s a technicality for what it was called, but as you can tell I’m not used to these glamour and showbiz events. It was food, and it tasted good. All that mattered.
At the tables we were all seated with other companies that we may or may not have met before. As we are a newbie to these circle of events we knew none of our table companions, but what a great bunch of people we soon found them out to be. Blue Owl Therapy who won an award on the night, Jabberwocky and Shape Your Wardrobe were all lovely people and we were all very keen to talk and understand about each others Businesses. This in itself would have made the night a success for us. The hosting and pace of the event was great, but I quickly gathered that IF we were going to win, a speech was required. Public speaking is not my thing, and this suddenly sent nerves through my body. Cutting the absolutely stunning lamb quickly became a struggle with the shakes in my hands. I soon recovered due to the sheer quality of the food though.
Our category came after desert, and as I mentioned, I was nervous. Up against two fantastic Businesses, one a 10 year old girl who set up a Business with her Mum and to have the initiative and drive to do that at that age deserves commending. I did think she was going to win, but it was Tayla – Sweet Tayloula who won the award. She was extremely shocked bless her. A deserved award and well done. I won’t lie though, I was envious of the prize money!
After the awards there was only one thing left to do. Dance. And dance we did.
A great event, great night and big congratulations to all the winners especially The Moorings at Myton who we personally love.
Thank you Leamington Business Awards for putting this great event on and we look forward to next years already.
