Skin Bunny | Skincare Demo Videos
Brief
Skin Bunny are absolute experts in their field, so naturally, creating skincare demo videos was the best way to showcase this to their global audiences.
A few calls and meetings took place where the trust was built. An understanding of the demo videos brief was instilled. But, even with a short timescale to start filming, this was something we were excited to be involved in.
We were to provide a green screen, crew of a director and director of photography. We also enlisted our own photographer and production assistant for continuity as we were looking to eventually do the post production too.
It is worth sharing that the client wanted to take care of the location, models, presenter, product photographer and the editing initially. This would change though. They also had their own team gathering social media content during the shoot.
All set, we prepared all of the equipment and schedules to produce 11 demo videos in one day.
Our
solution
As you’ve seen across all of our projects, we love finding creative solutions. Using a green screen isn’t as straight forward as it sounds. Sharing our behind the scenes video at the bottom of this page you can see one challenge we faced in setting up.
We had a lot of natural light coming in, so placing the green screen in front of that wouldn’t have worked for the edit. Instead we flipped it around, curved the corners in to make it more “infinity”. This helped the lighting. However, it would make the editing more difficult as we later found out.
Using 3 cameras, as requested, the demo videos had to have good continuity, both in content and in lighting. The reason green screen was required was due to the background needing to be uniform to previous content they’ve produced. A luxury household backdrop with a depth of field from our cameras, but natural looking.
The demo videos contained 4 models where the product was applied with close ups of the presenter, model and a wide shot covering both. The performance from the Presenter was great throughout with no teleprompter required.
Once filming was underway, the production became easier as the lighting, backdrop and set up was in a good place. It was then a case of managing wording and delivery.
Other challenges then came in post production.
Outcome
We delivered 11 demo videos in total, with two behind the scenes videos in addition. But before we got to that, we had a lot to work through in the post production stage.
With the 3 angles covering different perspectives of the presenter and background, finding the right image that would fit with those 3 perspectives was difficult. It had to look natural and realistic, which is always a challenge with green screen.
We provided 3 options to begin with. None of which worked as well as we wanted. We then broke it down to a further 2. One of these did work better due to the flexibility in each angle. The cutting of the performance was the easy part, as the script was succinct and the delivery was great. It just goes to show what different types of solutions are needed with what we do.
In the end, we have 11 demo videos that are ready to be used for TV advertising across the globe. The Skin Bunny brand is on a big journey with huge ambitions. We are happy with our working relationship and are already nurturing them as a company that has local roots, but global reach.
