Study Academy | Testimonial film

Brief

We worked with Study Academy on their testimonial film, done differently.

Inspired by true events, Study Academy came to us with the bones of a script and an idea that we bought into straight away. The idea of using an actress to deliver the testimonial meant we could add drama, performance and strengthen engagement.

Credit to John and Study Academy, the script was good as it was from a real scenario. What we and our studio could do was bring it to life. Moving certain logistics and scenes around to ensure we could film everything in one day.

A small crew was required with the studio able to take care of the rest. The testimonial film needed a dark backdrop, a light one, an open communal space and a car park. All of which we have available.

Our
solution

One of the things we changed in the script for the testimonial film was changing a ‘lift’ shot to security camera footage ‘outside the office’ in the scene. The rest was perfectly set up within the studio.

A Producer, DOP, actress, hair and make up and Director for the studio and props were the team we had on the day. Plus the client who had the view from the sofas.

Filming days for us are always supposed to be fun, and this was the case for this film.

We’ve worked with the actress on another project for this client, so selecting her for this testimonial film was a no brainer. She’s great, and elevated the script and performance really well. Jess, on hair and make up made the looks work perfectly and brought her own energy and charisma to the day.

Dale ensured the lines, delivery, performance and structure of the film was being met and would be followed through in the edit.

Oli, the DOP spent a lot of his time creating the right environments with lighting. Creating intensity and stress on the dark backdrops with a hint of smoke brought in, and lighter/brighter notes for the ‘after’ part of the script. He did brilliantly imitating the security footage in the car park, elevated in the edit as well.

Outcome

Testimonial films can be generic with talking heads and B roll. Approaching it this way we knew made for something different and appealing as a viewer.

It turned out exactly that, with Study Academy achieving these results on YouTube and LinkedIn.
